Soranos or Soranus is a Greco-Roman gynecologist doctor from the beginning of the iie century apr. J.-C.Il. He is the author of a Treatise on Women’s Diseases, considered the major text for the knowledge of childbirth and obstetrics.

Taken up by authors of late antiquity, his work exerted a profound influence in the Middle Ages, in the countries of Islam as in Christianity.

It demonstrates that the fetus is propelled, not by its own efforts, but by contractions of the uterus. He invented the podalic version by internal maneuver which consists in seizing and turning the child by the feet in case of transverse presentation in the upper strait.
